Experimental dark-psyctrance project Voidscream is the brainchild of German artist Henning Hinck, an outfit dedicated to psytrance music with harsh elements and breakcore, rhythmic noise influences. Starting from the previous work Jund (2018, Anomalistic Records) things got even darker, welcoming a strong industrial vibe with dark ambient parts.
Now he returns with Grixis, a work keeping those new elements in an even grimier and more mechanical environment made of obsessive syncopated rhythmic attacks, dark soundscapes and psytrance sounds with IDM elements. A new chapter in a futuristic style following its own path.
Field of the Dead features darkpsy producer Nyx Noize in an engaging track made of fast broken rhythms and eerie ambiances with a twisted soul. Riffing and compulsive pulsations are a main motif in an insane ride against time. A lysergic, almost acid, vibe completes the scene together with soothing choruses and sci-fi effects.
Brainstorm dwells even deeper in distorted dark sounds, keeping riding movements in a dystopian setting not so far from techno-industrial territories, but with a rhythmic scheme typical of the dark side of psytrance music. The episode grows thanks to the adding of hard kicks and beautiful melodic ambiances.
Tyrant's Scorn is the collaboration with young German producer Rustlerfari in the form of a convulsed, throbbing affair with steady cymbals and snare drums, underlined by alien atmospheres. The obsessive bass sounds guides us through cyber-corridors where enthralling effects are not forgotten.
Ritual of Sooot uses dark ambient motifs in a sharp and almost cinematic setting, then it evolves with roaring distortions amidst fast-paced drums and hard industrial beats. A mechanical structure is the main key in a dark pastiche no stranger to pounding moments.
Essence of Life (2019 v2 remix) ends our voyage with soothing atmospheres and shrilling effects, before it grows into a mutant breakcore march in mid-tempo and with sudden captivating pauses placed after false climaxes. Experimental distortions and variations in mood welcome straighter psytrance parts as well as syncopated movements and noisier passages. An emotional crescendo can be found in the underlining ambiances.
With Grixis Henning Hinck shows us a more redefined personal style which doesn't shy away from his darkpsy roots, instead giving them strength via injections of industrial and broken sounds. Following no fashion, he builds a sonic world of his own presenting an engaging work of the finest nature. If you are the open minded listener, this is something for you.
